The Main Event! Step-daughter #1's Engagement Party!
It was supposed to be a surprise, but she's just too smart for that. He popped the question in Central Park, and the whole park erupted in cheers and applause. Kids delighted and squealed...and then asked, "Who are we cheering for? What's happening?" Mike and I then walked through the park, and through the Upper East side, to the couple's favourite bar where we had a special reception attended by family and old friends from across the country. The bartended made a proper Black and Tan for me. Cheers!
I left a bit early and did the 50 minute 2.2 mile walk, mostly along 5th Avenue, from the bar to our hotel on Billionaire Row (The Quin). Passing the "tony" apartment buildings, a shared a cross walk with a kid in his 20s and his dog. As I approached them from behind, I could hear the dog talking. "Rrrrow rrrraw rrah," it said. To which the boy replied, ""Rrrrow rrrraw rrah." Yes, they were having a conversation on thier evening walk! As I passed, I asked, "What'r you guys talking about?" The kid stopped in his tracks, stunned, still in the street, and made no eye contact. So I continued the sentence, "Ah... things. That's good." And continued walking.
I have to say, knowing that G & B are getting married (and that people and dogs are having private conversations) gives me hope for humanity.
